Exciting News From Chile

Maccabi Canada is truly excited and motivated following a short visit to Santiago Chile, where Alex Brainis and I, along with 21 other country representatives met with the organizing committee of the 13th Pan American Maccabi Games that will take place in December of 2015.

Alvaro Rosenblut, past president of EIM, executive member of Maccabi World Union and a member of the International Sports Committee for the 19th and 20th Maccabiah, with the help of a team of professionals and volunteers presented the progress and preparations of every aspect of the upcoming Games.  Ruben Cohen, a top notch security expert explained the preventatives measures, and processes and procedures that are being developed and will be followed to ensure everyone’s safety during the Games. Danielle Eisen introduced the plans for the medical team and health care that will be provided to athletes and supporters. We were also presented with plans for transportation, communication and volunteer committees.

Our visit included a hospitality tour, where we had the opportunity to inspect and approve the selected accommodation centres for our Delegation, as well as a facility assessment during which we visited the local Olympic pool, softball and baseball fields, soccer field, basketball venue and other gyms and courts.  It was made clear to us that a lot of thought and consideration was put into the selection of the accommodation centres and sports venues.  We were very impressed with what we saw and are confident that our athletes and supporters will be pleased with the chosen facilities.

Another big aspect of the Pan American Maccabi Games will be the Social, Educational and Cultural program designed to enrich the sporting events and give participants the ability to interact, learn and share experiences with Jews from around the world. The SEC committee is responsible for Opening and Closing ceremonies, a New Year’s Eve party, Kabbalat Shabbat, a Rikudim (dance) program and other social activities.

We were very impressed with the professionalism and dedication of the organizing committee, and thoroughly enjoyed the hospitality and welcoming atmosphere of the Chilean Jewish community.  We are confident that we are in good hands and trust that the Pan American Maccabi Games in Chile will be a great success for the Canadian delegation and for the entire Maccabi movement.
