MEET THE COACHES – MACCABI SPORTS PROGRAMS

Coach: Arthur Berlin
Sport: Soccer
Arthur Berlin has been coaching for over 8 years at both house league and rep levels, which include teams with Aurora and JCC prior to joining Maccabi Canada.  He coached the Aurora Stingers house league U11 & U12 to back to back championships and was awarded the house league Coach of the Year.
Arthur has extensive experience playing soccer and continues to compete at the highest level in the Ontario Soccer League. His resume includes playing for the University of Guelph for 5 seasons where he was a consistent starter and won the Most Improved Player Award in his third year.
Maccabi Experience: 2017 Maccabiah Games, 2013 Maccabiah Games – Bronze Medal (first in Canadian history)
Certification: Learn to Train, Respect in Soccer, Make Ethical Decisions

Coach: Matthew Bollers
Sport: Basketball
Matthew Boller’s will share his experience coaching a U17 Rep basketball team and developmental coaching with Maccabi Canada’s Basketball program. Matthew’s goal is to help develop young players and bring a fun approach to the game in order to increase efficiency and promote growth and awareness.

Coach: Ben Halberstadt
Sport: Basketball
Ben Halberstadt coaching experience includes Head Coach ot the Varsity Basketball team at Yeshivat Or Chaim Knights, leading the team to the TDCAA finals appearance in 2017 and a championship at the David Tanzman Memorial Tournament in 2018. In addition he has coached a U16 team with “Run With It” basketball program and the JCC Warriors youth program.  In the summers of 2017 & 2018 Ben was the Head of Sports at Camp Moshava Ennismore.
Ben has experience playing high school, and rep basketball. He is currently competing in men’s leagues across Toronto throughout the year. This will be his first year coaching with Maccabi Canada and is very excited to be joining the team.

Coach: Josh Kiselyov
Sport: Soccer
Josh has been coaching for over 3 years at both house league and rep levels, with teams in both Vaughan SC and Bolton SC before joining Maccabi Canada.
Josh has extensive experience playing soccer and continues to compete at the highest level in semi professional League 1. His resume includes playing for the University of York for the past 3 seasons where he is a consistent starter and has won 2 OUA gold medals, 1 CIS gold medal, and one OUA silver medal in his time at York.

Coach: Karen Lee
Sport: Catchball
Karen Lee has a degree in Kinesiology with a specialization in athletic therapy and is currently completing her masters in counselling psychology. She has 20+ years of combined experience as a volleyball player, coach and referee. She continues to coach volleyball at the rep level and looks forward to coaching athletes of all ages.

Certification: NCCP level 2 Trained Performance Coach, Certified local volleyball official, Certified personal trainer.

Coach: Jason Mausberg
Sport: Soccer
Jason has been coaching elite men’s and youth soccer for over 12 years for both Maccabi Canada and USA levels. He uses his superlative management skills in interacting with the players and relates strategies on an individual and easily executable basis. Jason is still competing as a player and was the elder statesmen on the 2013 Canadian bronze medal open Men’s team at the Maccabiah Games. Jason also captained the USA masters team to a silver medal at the 2005 Maccabiah Games.

Coach: Uliano Muzzioli
Sport: Soccer
Coach Uliano Muzzioli recently relocated to Toronto is a UEFA B qualified coach, has been coaching soccer for over 20 years in London, England and played amateur football in Italy.  His coaching career includes starting a sister club of the Arsenal Ladies and the Varsity Boys Head Coach for the American School in London (ASL) football team.  He guided his teams to winning 4 consecutive County Championships, 2 times FA county cup winners, 3 times winner of the International Modena tournament in Italy and champions Eurodisney Paris International tournament.  Between 2011 and 2016, The Rockets team (2000-1 F), won 25 regional tournaments in the UK.   In 2016 the ASL varsity team won the International Schools European Championship.

Coach Uliano cultivated his coaching philosophy from his experience gained from his own playing, training with elite, UEFA and professional teams and coaches in Europe.  His practices are designed to fit the long term development of the players and the team.  He firmly believes that the individual improvement and fun element are the two pillars to build and create a fabulous experience for the players.

Coach: Ryan Odes
Sport: Basketball
Ryan, a Physical and Health Education teacher at the elementary level for 6 years and the coach for the school basketball team. He is actively involved in coaching multiple basketball teams for a variety of age groups, along with many other sports teams as well as running basketball clinics for youth at summer camps. Ryan’s experience also includes playing rep baseball and coaching championship teams in softball, soccer and volleyball. Ryan has a passion for coaching and enjoys helping students develop their skills and understanding of the game.
Certification:  NCCP Level 1

Coach: Niko Rukavina
Sport: Volleyball
Niko played Varsity Volleyball for 5 years at Queen’s University winning 4 OUA Medals, 2 Gold and 2 Silver.  Niko graduated with Bachelor of Arts Honours degree, majoring in Health Studies.  Upon graduation he played professional volleyball in Sweden and Germany for 2 years.  Returning to Canada and school to earn his Bachelors in Education, he began coaching with the Queen’s Men’s Varsity volleyball team under Head Coach Brenda Willis, who coached Maccabi Canada’s Silver Medalist team at the 2013 Maccabiah Games.

Niko has expanded his coaching and teaching expertise and is the Assistant Head coach for the Ryerson University Volleyball team.  In addition he is the Lead coach for Mississauga Pakmen Volleyball Club, runs the Volleyball Canada Center of Excellence in Mississauga and is the coach of U16 Team Ontario, National Champions.
Certification:  NCCP Level 2 Certified Performance Coach

Coach: Danny Sankar
Sport: Soccer
Danny has degrees in both Human Kinetics and Sports Psychology and coaches Soccer for a wide range of ages both in house league and rep levels.  His coaching experience also includes football, basketball and rugby at the high school level.  Danny has a positive and encouraging attitude and promotes athletic and personal growth for all players.
Certification:  NCCP Levels 1- 3, Active Start, Fundamentals, Learn to Train.

Coach: André Serero  
Sport: Basketball
André has been coaching for over 35 years and can been seen on the basketball court and/or soccer field or as a professor and Executive-in-Residence at Ryerson University’s business school. André has a tremendous passion for coaching, mentoring and giving back to the community and has been involved with Maccabi Canada’s Skill and Development Sports Program from its inception.  He has coached rep teams with the York South Silver Knights organization and JCC Maccabi Teams.  André has the unique ability to coach both the player and the game and he sees the big picture and works to maximize each individual player’s basketball potential and skills, coupled with a dedication to instilling the life skills and values that are at the very core of any team sport.
Certification:  NCCP Levels 1 -2 ; Basketball and Soccer

Coach: Gil Vainshtein
Sport: Soccer

Gil has been involved with soccer all his life.  He played at the highest amateur level in Ontario and attended Alderson-Broaddus Collage in the USA on a Soccer scholarship.  Gil, demonstrated excellent leadership with his teams, and was honoured to be named Team Captain for his University team, Team Canada at the 2011 Pan American Games and Bronze medal team at the 2013 Maccabiah Games in Israel.  He was named to the NCAA Division II men’s All-Appalachian Team in 2005.
In the last 5 years Gil has been coaching Youth Maccabi kids. He is very motivated and excited to share his soccer knowledge and experience while watching kids develop and improve their skills.

Coach: Josh Winer
Sport: Basketball
Josh, a teacher in York Region for 12 years, has coached basketball for over 15 years.  His experience includes coaching teams at multiple levels: elementary, high school, university and rep teams.  Being Josh’s second year in the Maccabi Sports program he enjoys giving back and coaching younger students helping them achieve their goals in basketball.
Certification:  NCCP Level 3 – theory and technical.
Maccabi Experience:  2009 Maccabiah Games – Gold medal in Fastpitch for Canada

Support Coaches

Coach: Josh Bennett
Sport: Soccer
Joshua has been coaching elite men’s and youth soccer for over 6 years for both Mohawk College Men’s Varsity Soccer team and as the Technical coach for Hamilton Sparta Youth Soccer Club.   He uses his interpersonal skills & technical ability as his approach to develop young players. Joshua possess a vast amount of playing experience from the provincial, youth national team and university level. Joshua was awarded a full scholarship to Simon Fraser University, and he is still competing as a player with the Maccabi Hawks men’s team.
