Our Maccabi youth teams were busy over the winter months with soccer, futsal, conditioning training at FITS, and competing in indoor leagues.
The 2001/2002 youth team competed in the Downsview park Hangar winter league. Most of the boys were playing a year up in age but what we lacked in size we made up for in soccer skill and acumen.
We finished the season with 8 straight wins amassing a 16-1-1 record. En route the boys won the league title, the Presidents’ Day tournament, and finished runners up in the playoffs.
Winning a league which spans 5 months takes a huge amount of ability but more important is the hard work, consistency, and commitment of the players with the support of the parents.
Often these underlying factors are forgotten in the world of sports. At Maccabi one of the goals is to build upon these foundational elements to not only achieve success in sport but in life as well.
