Maccabi Canada Supports Northland’s 11th Intercamp Basketball Tournament
It might have been the perfectly blue sky on a July summer day that made the 11th Annual Inter-Camp Basketball Tournament at Camp Northland such an exciting event to take part in, or maybe it was the spirit of 150 boys from 10 different camps, wearing Maccabi Canada jerseys and playing to win the gold, silver and bronze medals presented by Maccabi Canada.
The 10 teams representing Winnebagoe, Tamarack, Walden, New Moon, Timberlane, Wahanowin, George, White Pine, Tamakwa and Northland arrived at Northland early in the morning and were greeted by the camp’s staff and Maccabi Canada representatives. An inspiring talk about the Maccabi Dream encouraging the boys, coaches and other spectators to stay active, live healthy and aspire to participate in the Maccabia Games in Israel in the summer of 2013 was given by Tali Dubrovsky of Maccabi Canada.
“Maccabi Canada’s involvement has brought our tournament to a whole new level” said Nicole Markowitz, camp director at Northland, “we are looking forward to co-operating again in the future”. This is one of many community outreach projects planned by Maccabi Canada on their way to becoming a movement, on the path to promoting Jewish identity and support for Israel and cultivating future leadership through the passion of sport.
