Maccabi Canada's 16th edition of the Mike Yuval Maccabi Canada Tennis Classic was the sweetest one yet, raising $36,000 for the organization’s Adopt an Athlete program.

More than 80 participants, volunteers and supporters once again spent a recent Sunday afternoon at the Nun’s Island Tennis Club, helping continue Maccabi Canada’s longest running fundraiser. Leading the charge were this year’s co-chairs: Francine Bishinsky and Sandor Steinberg, who coordinated a dynamic committee including: Brahm Faber, Stuart Kugler, Nancy Krychman, David Ohayon, Leon Elfassy, Jeremy Serfaty,  Roslyn Griner, Tina Baldin, Mark Singer, Daniel Smajovits and Teddy Miller.

Many Maccabiah Games alumni were present, including: Brahm Faber (Tennis, ’13 & ’17), Jordan Simon (Hockey, ’17), Michael Barkun (Basketball), Dr William Novick (Tennis), Roger Antebi (tennis), and Norman Katz (coach).

Through the generosity of Mike Yuval, the Tennis Classic has called the Nuns’ Island Tennis Club it’s home for the past 16 years. Over the course of the afternoon, participants played doubles tennis in a team format coordinated by David Ohayon. This year's winning team in a tightly contested draw (only 4 points separated the top 5 teams) was made up of Abraham Zrihen, Sacha  Brand, Gary Walfish and Beth Prosterman.

In addition to an exciting afternoon of tennis, participants were treated to a wonderful array of food and drink as well as had the opportunity to participate in a raffle and a silent auction, featuring amazing items such as a number of Montreal Canadiens prize packs, various designer clothes and Rogers Cup tennis experiences.

“Our community looks forward to this event every November,” said Daniel Smajovits, Co-Chair of Maccabi Canada’s Quebec Region. “Each year and every dollar raised brings our athletes one step closer to representing their country at the Maccabiah Games. We cannot thank the players, sponsors and volunteers enough for their ongoing support and passion for Israel, sport, and the Maccabiah movement."
