Tommy Bacher Welcomes Delegation to Brazil

Tommy v2Hello, Shalom, Oi,

After many months of anticipation, I welcome you to Sao Paulo for what promises to be an exciting, memorable and fun event. I stand proud alongside our athletes, coaches, managers, supporters and staff. We are all about to embark on an experience of a lifetime.

The Jewish community of Sao Paulo have worked diligently to create this first class event, using the incredible Hebraica as the centre of activities. I thank everyone in Brazil for making these Games a reality.

This is my 4th pan American Maccabi Games and I must say the games just keep getting better. The opportunity to compete, cheer and make friends from all over the world is truly special and I encourage everyone to take full advantage of their time in Sao Paulo.

To our athletes, you have worked extremely hard to be ready to compete at the highest level possible and I wish you great success. I know I can count on you to support your fellow teammates and represent Canada with spirit and pride.

We are thrilled to have our supporters joining us as your presence in the crowds cheering for our Canadian athletes will add tremendously to our excitement and success.

I want to thank Alex Brainis, the head of our delegation, for the countless hours spent making sure that every aspect of our experience will be unbelievable. A special thanks to our devoted staff, Tali, Cathy and Lorne, for going above and beyond the call of duty and helping turn the vision into reality.

To our coaches and managers, Richard, Allon, Charles, Michael, David, Shane, Patris, Dan, Leslie, Mark and Morrie.
Without you there would be no games. Thank you for your endless support and continuous dedication.

We have a first rate medical team headed by Dr. Mitch Schipper and outstanding physios, David, Ira and Sebastian. We are all comforted by the knowledge that you are here looking after our needs.

I look forward to meeting and getting to know each and every one of you, knowing that I will be leaving Sao Paulo with many more friends than I had when I arrived. This is what makes Maccabi a truly special global organization.
In closing, I would like everyone to please remember to expect the unexpected, take things easy and go with the flow.

Play hard and fair, cheer loud and be safe!
Warmest Maccabi greetings,

Tommy Bacher
