Toronto vs. Montreal Tennis Challenge
Mayfair West Tennis Club in Toronto played host to the first-ever Montreal-Toronto Maccabi Canada Tennis Challenge, May 27-29, 2011. The goal was to bring 12 junior tennis prospects together(6 from Montreal and 6 from Toronto) in a Davis Cup Tennis atmosphere and to get the kids excited about the possibility of representing Canada in the 2013 Maccabiah in Israel.
Event organizer Norman Katz was pleased with the results. There were some great matches. He feels the players are even more inspired to try-out now for Team Canada(trials are forecast for fall 2012).Though this event featured only boys, Maccabi Canada is looking for strong jr girls as well. To be eligible for the jr tennis competition players must be born between 1995-2000.
Each player played 3 matches over 2 days(2 singles and 1 doubles). Toronto was the winner of this tennis challenge(8 wins vs 2 for Montreal).
Team Montreal consisted of Ethan Itzcovitz,Charlie Freidman,Zachary Pencer and Eyal Dehry. Team Toronto was led by David Volfson, Daniel Tisserman Jake Salsberg, Jake Erdman and Daniel Fainblum.
Katz would like to thank all the players and parents for making this event a success. Special thanks to Daryl Erdman and Irwin Tobias(Team Toronto)and Teddy Miller(Team Montreal). For more info please contact the Maccabi Canada head office.
