What are the key dates relating to the Games?
Delegation departure from Canada – July 28, 2019*(*subject to change)
All athletes and staff must be available to participate in a training camp which will take place 2 to 3 days prior to departure.
Opening Ceremony – JULY 30, 2019
Closing Ceremony – AUGUST 6, 2019
Official Team Canada flight home – August 7, 2019* (*subject to change)
Who is eligible to be an athlete on the Canadian Delegation to The Games?
You must be Jewish to be eligible (eligibility requirements available here). You must then meet requirements relevant to the sport for which you are nominating. An athlete must provide proof of Canadian citizenship and/or has lived in Canada for a minimum of 6 consecutive months in the year of the games.
Maccabi Canada eligibility qualifications for being considered a Jewish athlete:
(1) At least one of the athlete’s biological parents is Jewish
(2) The athlete does not actively practice another religion besides Judaism
(3) The athlete has converted to Judaism by one of the recognized denominations of Judaism
Each athlete must be willing to sign a document stating they are Jewish and be able to produce statements from two individuals (who are not family members) that can confirm they are Jewish by the eligibility qualifications listed above.

What if my sport is not listed?
If you are interested in participating in the games, but your sport is not offered, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. If the sport is offered by the organizing committee, and there is enough interest expressed, we may consider adding it to our delegation.
What is the cost for an athlete to compete in the European Maccabi Games?
A non-refundable $40 administration fee will be charged for your participation application
The cost for selected athlete to compete is $6,500* per person based on economy class flight and double occupancy accommodations**.
The flight to Budapest departs from Toronto Pearson International in Toronto. Athletes are responsible for the costs of travel from their home town to Toronto.
*Subject to change due to fuel surcharges, $US fluctuation and as flight prices become available
**Some additional fees may apply to some sports, e.g. green fees for golfers
What is the cost to participate in the European Maccabi Games?
Subsidized staff $1,500
Executive/non subsidized staff $5,500
What is included in the athlete package?
The athlete package includes:
– Training camps/practices with the team (if applicable) prior to departure
– A clothing package that includes team apparel, opening ceremony outfit, competition gear, sport bag and other accessories
– Roundtrip airfare
– Transportation to competition venues and social events
– Daily breakfast, lunch and dinner
– Competition entry
– Opening and Closing ceremony participation
– Day trips during the Games
– Maccabi World Union fees
What is the payment schedule?
Payment for each athlete is divided into three separate deposits and is due on the following dates:
1st Deposit: $2,000 due immediately upon selection to the team
2nd Deposit: $2,500 by March 1st, 2019
Final Deposit: $2,000 by June 1st, 2019
We encourage all athletes to purchase cancelation insurance.

What is the refund policy?
We strongly advise that you purchase cancelation insurance policy.
If an athlete withdraws from competing in the European Maccabi Games for any reason, all 3rd party* donations are non-refundable. 1st party* donations are subject to the following Maccabi Canada’s cancellation policy outlined HERE
What is the definition of a 1st party and 3rd party donor?
A 1st party donor in relation to the athlete (athlete = person registered to participate in the Games) is defined as one of the following:
- athlete themselves
- sibling of an athlete
- sibling’s spouse
- another athlete
- spouse of another athlete
- child of another athlete
- parent of another athlete
- grandparent of another athlete
- grandchild of another athlete
- spouse of any of the above
- business or corporation owned/controlled by any of the above
3rd party donors are those not listed above
When and where will we compete?
Competition schedules and locations will be available closer to the games. Once Maccabi World Union publicizes the schedule and venues we will post it on our website.
If I do not make the team is the registration fee refundable?
The initial $40 tryout registration fee is non-refundable under any circumstances
