Staff for the Open and Masters age categories must be available to travel to Israel between July 11 and July 26, 2022*.  Staff for the Junior age category must be available to travel to Israel 5 before the games* and are required to participate in the Junior Delegation Maccabi Canada’s Azrieli Israel Experience program. All staff members must be available to participate in a training camp which will take place 2 to 3 days prior to departure.
*Travel dates and dates of the games are subject to change.

If selected as a staff member for the 21st Maccabiah Games, your only participation costs will be a one time donation of $1,600 to Maccabi Canada. You can choose to donate this amount yourself or fundraise the funds.  A tax receipt will be issued for this contribution.  In addition, you will be required to sign a Code of Conduct document in relation to the terms and conditions governing your participation in the Games.

Listed below are the available roles for the 21st Maccabiah Games in Israel. Please read the descriptions carefully before applying. Please note you can apply for more than one role if desired, but if selected, you will only be eligible to fill one staff position. Each role requires a separate application.

Team Manager

The goal of the Team Manager is to ensure the smooth operation and compliance of their assigned team as well as the well-being and safety of their athletes.

The Team Manager is responsible for one specific team, or in some cases a number of athletes competing in an individual sport. They work closely with the Head Coach to ensure the scheduling and smooth operation of all aspects relating to athlete identification and recruitment, training, competing and well-being. As the head of logistics for the team, the Team Manager is responsible for enforcing and executing all guidelines, timelines and policies set by the Maccabi Canada head office, including athlete registration, payment schedule, competition uniform, communication and information distribution.

During the Games this role includes age appropriate supervision and management of the athletes, assisting the coach before, during and after competition in ensuring that all logistical needs are being met for the team.

A Team Manager does not need to have coaching experience, but must be familiar with all aspects of the sports they are applying to manage.

Head Coach

The goal of the Head Coach is to guide and lead their athletes providing their expertise in order to achieve sports excellence and the best obtainable outcome for their team.

The Head Coach is responsible for one specific team or in some cases one specific sport. They work closely with the Team Manager to identify and recruit high level athletes in their sport. It is the coach’s responsibility to plan, attend and execute all tryouts and training camps.

During the Games, the Head Coach is required to attend the coaches’ technical meetings and, if necessary, any meetings relating to athletic participation, security, medical access, and any other issues as required by the Maccabi Organizing Committee and Maccabi Canada.

A Head Coach needs to have extensive coaching experience in the sport they are applying to coach.


The goal of the Communications Team is to share the Maccabi Canada experience with all of our athletes and supporters – both in Israel and in Canada.

A Communications team member will be responsible for providing coverage of Team Canada’s progress and activities before the Games. This may include reporting on try-outs and training camps, taking pictures, researching potential and selected athletes and posting to social media.

During the Games a Communications team member will act as a “one-person” media team, attending Team Canada’s events, reporting on their achievements, taking pictures and posting to social media.

A Communications team member must have a valid driver’s license and must be able to drive in Israel.


The goal of the chaperone is to assist the coaching team in providing supervision, and ensuring the smooth operation as well as safety and well-being of the junior delegation.

All Chaperones will be responsible for supervising junior athletes between the ages of 13 – 18. Chaperone’s will be assigned one specific junior team or a number of individual junior athletes and will ensure the athlete’s health and safety and attend to their needs. The Chaperone will escort their team / athletes to training, competition, and events and in coordination with the coaching team, will ensure they are on time for all activities.

Chaperones must participate in the Azrieli Israel Experience and will stay in the junior village.


The goal of the Medical Team is to provide adequate health care for all Canadian delegation members and to ensure their health and safety at all times.

Medical and therapy coverage is required at all Team Canada practices and competitions. Medical staff is responsible for assessing and treating athletes in order to ensure their well-being and determine safe and timely return to play.

During the Games, each Medical team member will be assigned to a number of teams within a sport, or a specific region, and will provide athletes with treatments such as pre-practice and pre-game taping and wrapping, first response intervention, first aid to injuries occurring during competition, and if required follow up treatment and/or escorting athletes to the hospital.

In addition, all medical staff will be assigned time for clinical work during the Games.

Head Office Volunteer

Head Office Volunteers work with our administration team and help our leadership make sure our delegation is well prepared for the Games.

The work in the office varies, and may include help with registration, sorting athlete packages, customer service, bookkeeping, and general office help. Work hours will be determined by your schedule, whether you are available one time, a few hours a week, or on a regular basis.

If you wish to volunteer at our Vaughan office, please complete the Volunteer Form and our volunteer coordinator will reach out to you.  Office volunteers are not expected to travel to Israel with the delegation.

Junior Staff Information

Junior athletes are athletes 18 years of age and under as of December 31, 2022 (birth years for junior athletes for the 21st Maccabiah Games are athletes born between 2004-2007 or later).  The Junior delegation,  the Maccabi Canada’s Azrieli Israel Experience, and the Junior accommodation centre will be run by a dedicated Canadian team which includes a doctor, therapists, chaperones, coaches, managers, logistics and communication people.  In addition to their specific job description, all junior staff roles include a supervisory aspect during off-time and on weekends, and must attend all educational programs planned for the junior delegation by Maccabi World Union’s organizing committee and by Maccabi Canada.  Junior mangers will also have the responsibility of reporting to and communicating with parents prior to the Games. In case of an emergency during the Games, parents will be notified by the appropriate person responsible for their child.  All non-emergency communication with parents in Israel will be done through our communications team. A current Police Criminal Record Check will be required.

Team Lead

Medical, Communications, Junior Village, Chaperone and Logistics teams will be assigned a Team Lead.  The team lead’s role is to ensure proper execution of the support team’s objectives before and during the Games.  To act as a liaison between the Maccabi Canada Head Office and their team.
The team leads will assist in searching and identifying potential team members, define individual team member’s roles and hold them accountable to fulfilling their duties, ensuring the appropriate coverage for each team and sport.

Team Leads will take on the leadership role in addition to accepting and adhering to the rules, policies, responsibilities and financial commitment as outlined by their individual team’s role.
