Maccabi Golf Challenge on track for the Games
The Maccabi Canada Softball and Hockey teams are already in full swing when it comes to fundraising for next year’s Games. Last week, the two programs hosted the Maccabi Golf Challenge at the sparkling new Lebovic Golf Club in Aurora, Ont., to help players participating in Israel reduce their bottom line.
“The costs are extremely high [for athletes] due to many factors, one being the Canadian dollar,” says Morrie Frydberg, Chairman and General Manager of Maccabi Canada Softball. This golf challenge is set up as a means to help athletes meet their financial responsibilities in order to participate in the upcoming Maccabi games.”
The Maccabi golf challenge is much more than just your average fundraiser. It brings players, friends and family together for a day of good food and (not-so) good golf, depending on your foursome. Perhaps most importantly, the day exemplifies the qualities of camaraderie and fun, two key elements that also go in to building a winning team.
“It is my desire to create an atmosphere where the players can not only raise money to help themselves, but have the opportunity to get together away from the playing field for an afternoon of a social nature,” says Frydberg.
In the end, the event was a great success, with over 90 golfers helping to raise over $40,000 for the two programs in advance of next summer.
A big thanks goes out to tournament director David Goldstein, who organized the event and its successful silent auction, the volunteers, headed by Maccabi Canada’s Michele Bass, and the Lebovic family for hosting the golf challenge. A special mention goes to Mr. Wolf Lebovic, who not only took the time to meet with the hockey and softball programs, but made several trips to tour the golf course with members of the Maccabi Canada staff.
Due to the success of the Maccabi Golf Challenge, a date has already been reserved for next May to do it all again. We hope to see you there for a great day of golf and good times!
