Health and Safety Policies

Maccabi Canada is closely monitoring the ongoing pandemic both in Canada and Israel. We would like to assure our prospective athletes and staff that your health and safety remains our priority.

In response to the pandemic, Maccabi Canada established a COVID-19 committee, consisting of Dr. Tommy Bacher, Dr. Ian Cohen, and Dr. Daniel Warshafsky. These experts will continue to advise our organization on best practices for the entire Maccabiah Games process, from the moment an athlete is recruited until our delegation safely returns to Canada.

Following the advice of our committee as well as the latest health guidelines and safety protocols in place both in Canada and Israel, Maccabi Canada’s policies will continue to evolve throughout the next 14 months.

As of May 26, 2021, our organization has decided that:

  1. All members of the delegation must have received a full COVID-19 vaccination in order to join the games. We will update and advise what is the required timeline between getting the vaccine and our departure in July 2022.
  2. Our Head Coaches and/or Team Managers will begin reaching out to all athletes who have submitted their application in June to provide updates on the team selection process and timelines. Based on current projections, Maccabi Canada anticipates our coaches being able to hold in-person tryouts in August / September 2021. The nature of these tryouts in terms of size, location(s) as well as other necessary COVID-19 protocols can and will only be determined at a later date.

In advance of the tryouts, Maccabi Canada is requiring that all individuals in attendance, both athletes and staff:

  • Receive their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at least two weeks prior to the tryout;
  • Provide documentation confirming vaccination prior to the tryout;
  • Complete a self-assessment for any COVID-19 symptoms the morning of the tryout.

Please note that these requirements are subject to change, depending on local and provincial guidelines and recommendations from Maccabi Canada’s COVID-19 committee.

Please check this page periodically. We will post updates As Maccabi Canada’s Board of Directors and our Covid-19 committee provide more health and safety guidelines.
